Job Description:

About Us:

  • Tapulous is the #1 developer of iPhone games. We are a profitable ~25 person team in downtown Palo Alto, CA, and growing fast.
  • We have over 30 million users and have been #1 on the App Store 5 times over, with Tap Tap Revenge 3 at #1 for 20 straight days.
  • In February of 2010 we debuted Riddim Ribbon, a ground-breaking music racing game co-produced with will.i.am. Riddim Ribbon became the #1 grossing app on the App Store within 3 days after launch.
  • Mobile apps are the next frontier. Contact us if you’d like to join the market leader.

About the Role:

  • Engineering comprises half of our company, and several of our engineers are working directly on our iPhone code; the team is growing steadily. We need an experienced engineer, with the desire and skills to manage and motivate people, to step into a hands-on management position for our iPhone engineers.
  • This position reports directly to the VP of Engineering. You'll work with her closely, to ensure that the projects and products being worked on are technically the best they can be, are coming in on time and on budget, and that the team you both are building remains happy, healthy, and excited to be at Tapulous.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering managers at Tapulous write code. You'll be a key technical contributor, while leading a team of several iPhone engineers.
  • Personnel management, including weekly one-on-ones with direct reports, helping to guide and unblock folks on a daily basis, as well as assisting in their longer term career and skills development. You'll recruit new team members, and help us retain the great people we already have.
  • Project management. You'll help to scope projects and milestones into appropriate amounts of work, in aggressive but reasonable timeframes, and drive your team towards successful deliveries of some of the most widely-installed games on the best mobile platform there is.

Requirements:

  • Solid, senior engineering skills directly applicable to iPhone development.
  • Objective-C expertise, with knowledge of iPhone and/or Mac OS X frameworks.
  • Minimum of 5 years in industry, writing code.
  • Minimum of one year as an engineering manager, OR proven track record as technical lead for a team with several members. Both desire and ability to be a hands-on technical manager are a must for this role.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a high-profile, fast-paced startup. We ship games to millions of people on a very regular basis, with tight schedules and small teams, and it takes a certain kind of energy and drive to get it done!

Nice to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in game development (console, PC, mobile, web, etc.).
  • Experience in iPhone development.

How to Apply:

  • Play Tap Tap Revenge. We'll talk to you about the experience as a part of the interview process.
  • Send us your resume and cover letter. Applications without cover letters will not be considered. In the cover letter, please make sure to tell us why you would be a great community manager.
  • You must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer. We will not sponsor visas, nor will we hire consultants through sub-contractors that hold your visa.
