Systems Administrator (Berlin)
You are a skilled system administrator with many years of experience in running high-traffic web sites. You know how to best build up a performant and secure web application stack all the way from routers to servers to load balancers. You're are flexible, down with startup life, keen on new challenges, and you're a team player. And oh, you love music!
You'll join one of the most competent web application teams in Europe as a systems administrator to provide technical support and administration to the ever-growing number of machines running soundcloud.com.
Your key responsibilities at SoundCloud

Install software, apply patches, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source and locally developed monitoring tools

Build and maintain a scalable storage cluster

Define, document, and maintain the system and network architecture within soundcloud.com

Identify and recommend future technology and architectural advancements to support soundcloud.com, technology migration, integration, and evolution

Manage and lead hardware and software migration and upgrade efforts of varying size and complexity

Work with our hosting providers to resolve issues and perform updates

System failure analysis and recovery
Knowledge and skills required

At least 5 years professional systems maintenance experience in a Unix environment, preferably Linux and/or Solaris

Great shell programming skills

Deep knowledge of all things networks

Security auditioning skills

Knowledge of server hardware and architecture
Valuable Additional Skills
-
Experience with large-scale (1 petabyte+) storage systems

Fluency in the nginx/Thin/MySQL/*nix stack

Great SQL skills, including complex queries and optimization

Experience with Ruby and preferably at least one more language

Experience with Ruby on Rails or another web application framework

Familiarity with agile programming methodologies

Experience with Amazon Web Services
