AOL News is seeking sharp, Web-savvy freelance writers for our new site Sphere.com. Much of what is on AOL News will fold into Sphere in the coming weeks.
Â
Writers will be asked to
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â spot news stories that are hot on the Web
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â spot news stories that have national appeal
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â navigate RSS feeds and scores of news Web sites
-        write news stories quickly and accurately using a Web publishing tool
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â synthesize information from several different sources on the Web
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â write strong, authoritative headlines
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â add context and perspective to news stories
Â
Successful candidates will be self starters who have professional writing or reporting experience and solid news judgment. Writing quickly, cleanly and intelligently are crucial skills for the job.
Â
We have openings right now for mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Ideally, weâd like writers to work in 4-hour shifts, but we can also be flexible.
Â
Sound interesting? Send us a brief cover letter, your resume and a couple clips. Better yet, take a stab at a story from todayâs news that you find interesting. Write a piece under 500 words that summarizes the news, links to other sources, and puts everything into context. Add a strong headline too.
