POSITION OVERVIEW: Are you a “news junkie”? Do you have trouble unplugging? Can you easily condense complex ideas into 140-character headlines? PBS’s flagship public affairs documentary series FRONTLINE is seeking a talented social media innovator with a passion for journalism to join its online marketing and editorial teams. This person will help develop and execute interactive engagement initiatives that will raise the visibility of FRONTLINE reports, increase participation in FRONTLINE’s online communities, and positively reinforce the brand. A newly created position, the Online Engagement Coordinator will help establish best practices, processes, and systems for the series’ ongoing initiatives and experiment with fresh ideas we haven’t even dreamed up yet. Responsible for supporting diversity and inclusion in the workplace and interacting in a way that is free from discrimination, intolerance or harassment.

Extremely flexible schedule required due to the demands of public affairs programming and the nature of breaking news and political developments on the Web.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:  Since 1983, FRONTLINE has served as PBS's flagship public affairs series. Hailed upon its debut as "the last best hope for broadcast documentaries," FRONTLINE has earned every major award in broadcast journalism including 41 Emmy Awards and 24 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Journalism Awards. In 1995, the series pioneered one of the earliest Web sites for television; and pbs.org/frontline remains one of PBS's most popular general-audience sites to this day with an archive of 86 full-length documentaries available for viewing online.

EXPERIENCE: Ideal candidates for this position should have 1 – 3 years of demonstrated success in social media for the news, public affairs, or broadcasting industry. A degree in journalism or some prior reporting experience is extremely desirable.

SKILLS: The ability to write attention-getting copy under tight deadlines is essential. The ideal candidate must be able to think creatively and quickly in order to take advantage of breaking news and political developments; to communicate about complex topics to a general audience; and to connect with diverse constituencies both online and in person. Must possess strong interpersonal, problem solving, planning and organizational skills and the ability to handle several duties simultaneously. Flexible schedule due to demands of current events programming, team player attitude, and excellent follow-through are critical.

EDUCATION: College degree required.
